Scottish Water has completed a £310,000 project upgrading the Arinagour Water Treatment Works on the Isle of Coll and increasing its capacity. The system serves Coll’s 150 residents and the many tourists who visit the island, particularly in the summer, to enjoy its beaches, its wildlife and its tranquillity.
The project, which began in March 2008, was carried out for Scottish Water Solutions by Biwater Leslie. Some initial operational difficulties and access issues meant that it has taken longer than expected to complete but since all the work was contained within Scottish Water’s existing facilities the inconvenience to the island community was minimal.
The water treatment works uses raw water fed from Loch Airidh Aon Oidche. This can be supplemented from Loch Fad. The project has increased the plant’s output and is capable of servicing around 20 additional houses, making room for the community to grow.
