Figures show that the numbers of officers in Strathclyde Police area have risen from 7,619 in the quarter ending March 2008 to 7,824 in the latest figures at end September 2008 –an increase of 205 officers.

This is of course a welcome relief for Strathclyde Police and will be welcomed by those who look to the Strathclyde force for their policing - as does Argyll for whom Strathclyde Police provides its police service..

Argyll’s MSP, Jim Mather, in welcoming the announcement by Kenny MacAskill, MSP, Cabinet Secretary for Justice, notes that the Scottish Government’s pledge to put 1,000 more police on Scotland’s streets: ‘is not only happening as promised but the government will exceed that target’.
