(NEW story on 20th November: There has been a second burst to the same truk main today, Thursday 20th November. For Argyll has been publishing regular situation ipdates on this incident too. Here is the most recent information, as Scottish Water restore supplies to normal.)
Scottish Water engineers have completed the repair of the burst trunk main which caused disruption to normal water supplies to about 6,000 properties in Helensburgh. Although the repair has been completed, it will take a number of hours for the network to recharge and Scottish Water expect that normal water supplies will be restored to customers in Helensburgh tonight. Some customers may experience temporary discolouration when then their water is restored but this will run clear in time.
Until then, alternative water supplies will continue to be made available, including to those with special needs. Bottled water is and will be available at the Swimming Pool car park in West Clyde Street.
When stocks at the three other locations listed in For Argyll’s earlier news item (Kidston car park in Rhu Road Lower, the Victoria Halls car park in Sinclair Street, and in Churchill Square) are used, these will not be replenished because of issues related to customers’ safety at those locations after dark.
Scottish Water has also placed 60 static tanks at strategic locations throughout the town.
Since the burst, so far Scottish Water has provided over 300,000 litres of bottled water to customers in the Helensburgh area. The company wishes to apologise for the inconvenience caused by the burst and thank its customers for their patience and understanding.
Scottish Water are keeping For Argyll informed on developments and we will pass on all news as soon as we get it.
