Scottish Water and NHS Highland are advising Tobermory folk to boil water before using it for food preparation and drinking. This applies only to people living in the 360 properties in Tobermory which lost their water supply with the burst water main.
Scottish Water engineers have now repaired the burst water main in the village which was the source of the problem. However, when supplies are restored it is a sound precaution to boil water. This is the advice of the Consultant for Public Health Medicine of NHS Highland. The advice – which it would be wise to read as an instruction – is now in effect and will remain in place until further notice.
Scottish Water are distributing information leaflets to properties in the area and Argyll & Bute Council’s environmental health department has also been informed.
Anyone uncertain about whether they are affected or not should contact the Scottish Water Contact Centre on 0845 6018855.
