Wakeboarding on the Tiree Wave Classic is an Adventure Race on Tuesday 14th October from Tiree to Coll. There are three stages to this – running, windsurfing and mountain biking. You can enter as an individual or as a team of three. You have to pre-enter or you don’t go.
The running stage will be 2-3 miles on the beach at either Gott Bay or Crossapol. The windsurfing stage is island to island, Tiree to Coll. The mountain bike stage on Coll follows the islands half-marathon track and is about 11.5 miles over road, track and dunes.
There’s a CalMac ferry back to Tiree at 17.40 on Tuesday evening for those who need it. Alternatively, overnight accommodation is available at the Hebridean Centre on Coll with a ferry to Tiree the next morning, Wednesday 15th, leaving Coll at 8.40am and arriving at Tiree an hour later.
Entry forms can be downloaded from the Tiree Wave Classic site.
As we’ve reported, The Tiree Wave Classic runs from today – 11th October, to 18th October. It brings in £1 million to the economy of the small but perfectly formed Argyll Isle of Tiree. One of the premier events in European windsurfing, it includes the disciplines of wave sailing, freestyle and super-cross (slalom racing).
We will report on events and results as the week goes on.
