Cowalfest this year has many highlights, but one which is already attracting a great many bookings is the Walking Theatre Company‘s production of Macbeth at Dunans Castle. Not only is this great venue providing the perfect roving stage for the witches and the Lady to torture their increasingly witless victim, but the evening start time will create an added level of mystery and excitement.

As the Walking Theatre Company principal, Sadie Dixon-Spain says, “We wanted to add layers of atmosphere to this production, building on our very successful evenings at Glenbranter for the Forestry Commission Scotland last year. The audience’s love the witches at night especially so walking through the extraordinary nighttime landscapes that Argyll provides.”

The Walking Theatre Company are also debuting a new production, Dead Men Can’t Speak at two other Argyll mansions, Ardkinglas and Ormidale – this historical tale has its roots in the clan struggles and desports itself with murder, mayhem and betrayal. With the perennial narrative of Excisemen, unrequited love and the clearances the Whisky Way will bring the Company’s innovative theatre to a new venue in Colintraive, Caol Ruadh.

With Food Events at Loch Fyne Oyster Bar and Dunans Castle, and Children’s productions, The White Rabbit’s Treasure Hunt and a re-telling of the Robert Louis Stevensons’s class Treasure Island, Sadie and her cohorts, including wild food expert Alison Sykora, will be making a varied and entertaining contribution to Cowal’s premier arts and walking festival.
