Helensburgh website warns of counterfeit vodka

Helensburgh’s constantly newsy website is carrying the story of a warning from Argyll and Bute Counciul to watch out for counterfeit vodka. The warning centres on an earlier alert from the national Food Standards Agency (FSA) relating to 70cl bottles of counterfeit SPAR Imperial Vodka. These have been found exclusively in non-SPAR shops. There is no concern about the stocks sold within SPAR shops. No counterfeit bottles have been foud in any of these.

The counterfeit spirit has high levels of methanol which, if the spirit is consumed in large quantities, can produce blindness among other health hazards.
