Four Mid Argyll athletes to represent the area in Boccia at 2009 Great Britain Special Olympics

Flora Currie, Campbell Ferguson, Iain MacDougall and Sandy MacKellar, all members of Argyll and Bute Council’s Resource Centre in Lochgilphead, will represent Mid Argyll in Boccia at next year’s Great Britain Special Olympics. Boccia? We’ve not heard of it before either. It’s a sport for athletes with a disability and is not unlike bowls. Leather balls are tossed as close as possible to a white target ball on a long, narrow field of play. The Mid Argyll four will be part of a 350-strong Scotland West team. Their coaches, Karen Heafey and John Gillies will be with them.

Obviously the team has to raise money to contribute to their costs in participating in the event. They’ll be holding fund raising events in Mid Argyll. Donations will help enormously and can be arranged through John Gillies at Lochgilphead Resource Centre on 01546 603744.
