Great disappointment as Islay cancels the Whisky Barrel Drop

Such a wonderfully imaginative idea and such an innovative and exciting way to raise money for local charities. It is very disappointing that the organisers of the Whisky Barrel Drop we wrote about recently have had to cancel the event. They had only sold one thousand of the much greater tickets sales targeted. They are planning to refund the money to the people concerned, which is honourable, expensive and time-consuming. The editor of the Islay community blog has now come up with a generous spirited solution to ensure that some money still gets to the Islay charities that would have benefited and that the organisers do not end up with a serious loss on their hands. He has suggested that everyone who bought a ticket donates the cost. He also suggests that if people accept this, the main organiser might also offer a £25 discount (the cost of a ticket) to anyone who came to stay in the new Islay Hotel.
