Yesterday the Crinan canal reopened after closure since 20th July when a failure was found in a bond between a concrete cill and the floor of the lock at the Crinan end. Temporary repairs were carried out and the canal reopened last Saturday, only to close again hours later over concerns about possible further failures of the same lock cill. Another temporary repair saw the canal open again yesterday. British Waterways report that the necessary major repair would take around three weeks but that their priority is to keep the canal open as much as possible to minimise inconvenience for the volume of summer users of the Argyll canal.
