With the break-up of their relationship, owners Dick and Meg Gannon from Campbeltown have put Argyll’s iconic 314 acre Sanda Island with its sisters, Sheep Island (35-40 acres) and Glunimore Island, on the market for £3.2 million. All the buildings on Sanda, the main island, have been renovated by the Gannons and include a farmhouse, six self-catering cottages and an award-winning pub, the Byron Darnton. The island and its facilities attract tourists and also cater to the needs of passing sailors on yachts and naval vessels on exercise in the area. Indeed Mr Gannon is locally famous for the number and variety of his boat-handling mishaps which, fortunately were without cost to life or, generally, limb but provided much entertainment over the years. Sanda is listed as a Site of Special Scientific Interest and is home to a wide range of seabirds. It lies thirteen miles south of Campbeltown, at the end of the Mull of Kintyre - famously celebrated in song by Paul McCartney - and is a stepping stone across the North Channel to Ireland with Rathlin Island and Ballycastle around twenty miles away.
