Interesting news for Argyll’s would-be film-makers: Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU) is starting a new part-time MA degree in International Film Business this September. (It will run full time from next September.) The course is designed to be accessible to people working and living in and away from Glasgow. A lot of it will be delivered online, supported by weekend sessions held at the university.

This will be the first MA of its kind in Scotland and promises to “help producers see the bigger picture in the movie industry”,  focusing on the practical considerations in transforming ideas for films into reality. An example of this is the intention to help producers understand and work effectively with accountants.

Dr Catriona Miller from GCU says: “Producers need an equal blend of creativity and business skills and our course will have aspects of both. We want producers with great ideas that we can help them craft into a package that will be attractive to financiers. A lot of the course is based on students developing their own projects and we hope they would leave not just with a qualification but with four or five projects where they have the script writer and director involved and are ready to put the money together.”
