New passenger ferry for Jura as car ferry from Port Askaig hit by ten year service reduction

We recently drew attention to the serious reduction of the car ferry service to Jura as a result of flaws in the new slipway at Port Askaig. Islanders’ fears that this situation could endure for ten years now seems well founded. Set against this deficit comes the news of a new passenger ferry service which, after successful trials last year, is to be introduced. Sailing between Craighouse on Jura and Tayvalivh on the west coast mainland of Kintyre, the crossing will save five hours on getting to Lochgilphead.
