A goods vessel, the Danish registered MV Vega, has become the first to use the new shiplift at Faslane Naval Base. The ship was required to transfer heavy items, one weighing 35 tonnes, from the restricted inner area of HMs Clyde at Faslane to the naval base at Devonport - hence the use of the shiplift. Security was naturally meticulous, with divers going down to check the underside of the hull and Admiralty pilots escorting the ship through the harbour and Ministry of Defence Police dogs boarding t search the vessel. The operation seems to have gone well and the Vega has gone south.
