Achnebreac Forest in Mid Argyll has given up a secret. A large tree brought down by the recent gales has exposed a rock carving it has long protected.  Andy Buntin of Forestry Comission Scotland, owner of the forest, said: ‘The importance of the site and the reasons for the carvings remain a topic of speculation and despite pubic and academic interest, the meanings of the symbols remain mysterious. But we do know that they date back to the late Neolithic and Early Bronze Age.’ The Forestry Commission, along with Historic Scotland and Kilmartin House Museum will now work to discover the extent of the site.
